Albuquerque, NM to Santa Monica, CA
Continuing from the rest stop, heading west on I-40 between Santa Rosa and Albuquerque, take exit 197 to drive a segment of the historic route through Carunel and into Albuquerque.

Follow Route 66 signs through Albuquerque.

I picked up a new job taking empty pallets to Gallup and headed out of town beneath this Route 66 structure.

Going west on I-40 take exit 117 for a hidden road.

This 5-minute video reveals the entire length of the hidden road.
In Holbrook, Arizona, follow the Route 66 signs to the southside of town. You may use the parking lots or alley to turn around.

Follow historic Route 66 through Winslow.

On I-40 west, follow the historic Route 66 sign, exit 123, to Flagstaff, Arizona and follow the business route. As shown in the cab-view below, turn left.

Follow the Route 66 signs:

After leaving Flagstaff heading west on I-40 take the exit for state route 66 to follow the historic highway towards Seligman. I encountered a road construction, an in-game roadside event (not always there).

Next we drive through the tiny town of Hackberry:

State route 66 leads into Kingman, Arizona. Keep following Route 66 signs passing the interstate to loop around the city to the next entrance for I-40.

In California west of Needles, take exit 115 for a “hidden road” segment of historical Route 66 through Amboy to Ludlow.

After delivering cargo, we take a tour of Barstow.

In Barstow picking up my final job, Big Boudreaux looks excited to finally reach Santa Monica.

Arriving in Santa Monica!

After delivering the compressors, we head down to the Santa Monica pier, the end of Route 66!

End of Route 66

Joplin, MO to Albuquerque, NM
Continuing my trip in American Truck Simulator following Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica, I started the day in Joplin, Missouri, picking up all-terrain hysters. I followed Route 66 through Galena, Kansas. The mural on the building reads, “Greetings from Galena On Historic Route 66.”

In American Truck Simulator by SCS Software soon after the release of the Illinois map DLC, I followed historic Route 66 from Chicago To Santa Monica traveling the existing historic segments and visiting as many landmarks and places of interest as I could. I wanted to do something different, and the completion of Route 66 in game provided an opporunity. Also, it just so happens 2026 marks the Route 66 centenial celebrated at route66centennial.org.
The Illinois map DLC does a nice job of recreating a scaled-down map of the state including beautiful Chicago. The game’s scale is 1:20, but cities are relatively oversized to provide more driving opportunities. Much of Chicago is not in game, but downtown section and some surrounding areas provide enough gameplay experience of the city including the Historic Route 66 start marker. Which is where I began my drive. You may follow along here or on a thread at Bluesky.
Chicago, IL to Joplin, MO
For the trip, I chose to drive the classic-styled Kenworth W900 Legacy Edition and using a Prestige aluminum flatbed trailer.
